A Dramatic Change

Every since I was 11, I have secretly been a big fan of Avril Lavigne. Her music was catchy and very relatable to a somewhat rebellious girl like me. I was such a big fan of hers that I even wanted to dress like her: baggy pants, tank top, and the Vans. Nowadays I don't know what I was thinking fashion wise; let's just say I was young and innocent.

Reflecting back on the old times when she first came out, I see how her fashion changes dramatically. Her first few years consisted of the necktie over t-shirt combo and the long straight hair. During her years promoting her second album, Under My Skin, she started wearing skirts and she played more with her hair. She even walked out on the red carpet in a stunning little black dress while promoting the movie: Over The Hedge. (And I thought she said that she hated dresses!) These days she's wearing heels in her music videos and she's girlish than ever, which I love too.

And did you know that she became a Ford Model? When I heard of that I was in shock and very interested to see her as a model, which I think she did quite well.

Avril has gotten so stylish these days that she has started to make her own clothing line. I'm not so sure how far this will go, because I'm not so into celebrities designing clothes.

As for her music, I think her best album was Let Go, but I think her newest album is great too, because she can sing it live just like the album recording. Her voice in her debut album was very crisp and clear and the lyrics were great, but she couldn't sing well live. Under My Skin was a change and she started writing more of her own lyrics, which didn't always sound too good. However, My Happy Ending was a big hit too.

To wrap it up, I think she looks great these days and a girl shouldn't be rebellious all her life! (But I sometimes wonder about her pink hair that she's sporting right now.) Can't wait to hear more of her music and who knows, maybe her clothing line will turn out to be good.

It makes me a little angry that they're so willing to sign up celebrities who have no distinctive model features (like height!). Who is going to hire Avril Lavigne for an editorial without an article?

I like the way her style is changing, but I wish her music would mature as well. She can remain a slightly angry rocker, but can't it get beyond "boyfriends" since she is now a married woman...?

i'm secretly a fan of her music (not so much her) as well! and while i realize everyone changes over time, i wonder if she felt pressured to abandon her punk look to better fit in. It looks rather unnatural on her.

Ugh she's always bothered me...

I despise Avril, but that's because everyone used to say that we looked alike. I have long straight hair, which was brown when hers was brown, and I wore similar clothing to her (not pop punk though...think more like skater/surfer girl).

However, I do like her style more now. As I have ditched the old clothes (pretty much =]), she has too. We're (sigh), kinda in sync in that area.

Yea she was one of the first rock artists I ever listened too. She's gorgeous so I'm not surprised that she's a model.

I had my rock chick tie-over-anything period too. Can't imagine what was going in my head back then :P

And as for Avril, I admit liking her music and I love how her fashion sense has evolved over the years, but I also agree with the Clothes Horse: it would be amazing to see her evolve past the angry teenager stage. Who knows, maybe future album will show a new side of her?

love how she's cleaned up her act. I guess it comes with age. Oh and I linked you by the way!

She does have good features...But she's pretty short. She'd probably model her own clothes line or up close shots but she definitely can't strut the catwalk or do high fashion editorials.

I used to like her 1st album...Her second was more preferred. She sounded a little more mature. I think her 3rd album was shocking, actually. A little childish for a married 24 year old and i was expecting something deeper from her. Ah well.

Great post tho! Ta

I really do love her new look- what I don't love is, people criticizing her for not being "true to herself and fans" ...I mean she is growing up in the public eye and should be allowed to experiment just as any other normal young adult would...whether its grunge or polished, Avril has always looked great to me! Way to represet the Canadian girls :)

I agree with Meg (first commeneter), isn't this always the case with celebrities? Take Daisy lowe, Peaches and Pixie Geldof etc.
I used to love Avril, she really was the Queen of a couple of years wasn't she. Really influential. But then she came out with 'Girlfriend' which was catchy, but made me see her as a fake punk star like Ash Simpson which I always find really off-putting. You HAVE to youtube the Avril Popworld interview with Alex Zane, that was hugely talked about over here in England. Haha.
