My mom always told me not to slouch...

Originally I was going to write a negative post about the hunch pose that many models have used in their photo shoots. I was getting a little tired of all this slouching and I was trying to find a picture as an example. After an hour of surfing the Internet, I was hopeless and began to like this hunchback pose all over again. I was completely mesmerized by how beautiful the models look even though their posture is awkward. Most of the models were able to pull off the pose and make it look fashionable. In fact, there were barely any examples to use to back my reasoning about why the pose was bad!

In my opinion, out of all the top models, Caroline Trentini is the queen of slouching. There's not one time where she has looked strange or ugly and the best thing of all: she can make it look natural. Sometimes there are models that exaggerate the hunch and make it look too posy, which comes out a little amateur.

However, I do think it's overused throughout the industry. It's a unique pose, but I'm also all about good posture. I think the hunch is very couture and high fashion, but good posture is really attractive as well. To slouch and still make it beautiful is a hard task and I believe that only the top models can work that pose. Of course, in the end, true models don't pose, they model and that's when their best shines.

Ha-ha, slouching and awkward poses are very high fashion--not to sound like an ANTM judge though (ugh!). I think it works so well because it breaks up their extremely long and lean bodies. Doesn't work so well on shorties like me...

Funny -- just last night I was looking at Trentini in this month's Vogue and thinking, "She's really the best at the "action shots" right now." She almost always looks like she's in motion, and yes, she always looks great.

You make such a good point and I'm constantly overwhelmed by how many amateur bloggers are photographing themselves all slumped over. Maybe they think it makes them look skinnier? I was actually considering doing a post on all of the "popular" poses, which would include the pulling the hair back from your face, tying your shoe, hunched over, with pigeon-toes. I think it could be really funny.

haha, I know what you're saying, I sometimes don't get why that pose is suppose to be high fashion.

I think the ANTM girls make it look pose-y and amateurish. Top models do it well. My mother always tells me not to slouch. I argue that top models do it, and she says "when you make thousands of dollars for slouching, I will stop nagging you about it". Lol!

This pose makes you look so slender, especially in the upper part of the body.

Now I'm going sound so ANTM because I love the 'broken down doll' pose. I do agree when I see a Target catalogue and models are working the slouch I'm left scratching my head.

It could be worse, it could be the mid 90's Paltrow slouch...now there wasn't nothing nice about that!

I agree that some model's can look very nice and high-fashion with a slouch. However, that said, I think that it is a tad overused and I think that less experienced models need to be careful because an amatuer-ish slouch can look simply awful.

I totally agree, and you can blame the "amature slouching" on ANTM and Miss Tyra. Honestly its one the staples of that show.

The pose is rather high fashion! But it does senda bad posture message, haha!

I guess it goes to show..we all slouch from time time. Might as well make it a bit of a natural look. It is bad for you in the long run.

In my opinion, there are too many "slouching" photos, and I'm getting tired of it. :[

i personally think that the pose is a little bit strange BUT...what the heck, i wouldn't do it in real life but it does look interesting when models do it

BUT i think people (like me) are also tired of the "perfect posture" pose, and since fashion always try to convey something more ordinary, im loving the awkward poses in every magazine photoshoots!

though i agree, the slouch one is a bit OVERUSED.

i totally know what you are saying and i think the slouched look may be channeled by the posture of some of our fashion icons (mk, nicole richie, etc.) its so high fashion and im in luck bc i never stand up straight! great post!
