In a French road safety awareness campaign, Karl Lagerfeld sets fashion aside and wears a bright yellow vest with a caption to the side that says: "It's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't match anything, but it can save your life."
According to reports, deaths from traffic accidents in France have risen 10 percent to 346 in May, which is the highest this year. From July 1st, the yellow vest that Karl Lagerfeld is wearing will become mandatory to all drivers and cyclists when riding in the dark. A reflective triangle will be required as well.
This ad has been running for almost 3 weeks now (yes I am very late with news) and I couldn't help but write a post about it. I applaud how Karl Lagerfeld posed for the campaign in order to aware the French of road safety and the new laws. I love the tag line of the ad and he definitely got the message across. The yellow vest is pretty ugly, but road safety is indeed important, perhaps more important than being fashionable.

I absolutely love this. It's a great message and I love how they have Karl Lagerfeld for the campaign - genius!
I love that karl is getting in on it, he is a household name well at least at my house i love when good celebrities get into safety and charities because it causes people to look twice.
Haha oh Karl.
Oops, must buy one. I'm going to take my driving test to drive a scooter soon (you can drive one at 14 in france), and i don't want to be caught by the police without one. Me, an outlaw. Scary thought. I actually have yet to see this advert, and i doubt most of my friends would be able to tell who he is. And teenagers are involved in most car accidents. So much for target audiences.
x
Argh, long comment.
this is great! Karl in that vest is priceless! Next I want to see him in a lifejacket!
oh wow thats great !
I really admire Lagerfield for doing this. It's a fantastic message and very unlike his usual self.
I'm confused. So if drivers/passengers/w.e get in accidents, will the best like activate and save their lives?
i dont know why but this reminds me of a got milk ad haha
lagerfeld saves the world again!
The more I learn about Karl the more I like him, he always has a surprise up his sleeve...
I would love to do a link exchange!

Karl suprises me everytime. Great message!
perhaps more important than being fashionable?
I think you mean it is definately more important than being fashionable.
I think Mr Lagerfeld looks extremely dapper in yellow ;)
"It's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't match anything, but it can save your life." BUT there just isn't a reason why it can't save your life and still be fashionable.
karl, you should've release a redesign to kick up a notch for the campaign.
