Over Too Soon for Kira Plastinina

Kira Plastinina, the very young
and distinguished designer, filed for
chapter 7 bankruptcy on Jan 2, 2009.
With so many fans, celebrity supporters, and the media backing her up, the bankruptcy that KP Fashion Co. filed yesterday definitely hit like a bombshell. Not such a happy new year for our dear Kira, but after last month's decision to close most of her stores in the US, I had a feeling that her company was in trouble, but not this deep.

Reports have concluded that her label is $54 million in debt to over 100 creditors. And it's not just that - the company's in a court battle over trademark infringement with Pacific Sunwear.

As a deep fan of her label, it's very saddening to me that a vibrant young designer like her had to be pulled down during this economic crisis. It shows that having an impressive skill in designing and a millionaire father to help out isn't enough to have a successful company in the industry these days. Just 7 months ago she took America by storm and unfortunately it ended rather too soon for Kira Plastinina. Hopefully this isn't the last that we will see from her - I'm sure she'll come back.

PSSHTT. I knew it would happen. Since working at Seventeen, I've seen a butt load of her collection. Her stuff is too pricey for its quality and her clothing, although cute, is not something everyone can wear. Hopefully she'll come back with much more marketable clothing!

Awww, for real? I hope she will comeback. I really love her designs. :|

Honestly she was not a good designer. Her clothes were just runway ripoffs that you could find at Forever21 only priced much higher.

I wasn't a fan of her line, but I certainly am sorry to see her go. :/

Wow, but really how did she accumulate that debt? While I feel sorry for her, she should learn better business.

wow, that's pretty shocking. i have to say, though, that i wasn't that much into her stuff.

I haven't heard about her much but after reading through your article it left me with a bit of shock. I do hope that her career could recover from its sudden decline and get back to fashion designing. She's still young and it looks like she's having a promising career so hopefully she'd be back.

It's sad, but her designs weren't that great esp for the price, and she grew the business to fast, too quick to be sustainable.

i wasnt too found of it or the prices back when she was published in teen vogue a while back. but it is sad that the economy is closing people's dreams down

There are so many politics involved in keeping a brand afloat once you're working the mass market. Brick stores get hit first since there are so many expenses associated with their existance. I'm sure the talented young designer she is, she'll come through this with a lesson learnt.

its sad, but in this case bankruptcy is just another term for BAIL OUT!, once again rich folks get a free ride, why cant her dad pay her debts? im sure they have the money. however, that would be wayyyy too generous (yeah, ok).she'll be ok though, her family has money, if anything she'll suffer humiliation.

To tell the truth, we in Russia hate her. My friend actually knows her live, and she thinks that she is very stupid, she is failing her exams and acting like she is a queen. People make fun of her, which I hate, but she is not making a clothes by hersef.
We rarely buy something from her boutiques.

She accumulated that much debt because clearly no one in her company had any knowledge about business: you can't just start designing and expand that quickly. She was doomed to fail. You have to grow slowly and work within your means. That being said, I thought her clothing was forever21 with a huge ego attached to it. She's a joke within the industry.
