These Shoes Were Made For Walking!!!

Victoria Beckham rocking her
6-inch heels. Can you walk in these?
At least that's what I want to think... Every girl that loves fashion dreams about wearing killer heels everyday, all day. But is that practical? From my experience, I would say definitely no.

I've had questions from many people asking how I can possibly wear heels. Actually putting on heels and walking in them is the easy part. Now, walking in them for hours is the challenge. Have you ever been on a date or a night out where you dressed up looking all fabulous, but halfway through the only thing you're thinking about is the pain of your feet? And then the pain eventually shows in your face... I know, I've been there!

If we refer to Victoria Beckham, it seems like it's actually possibly to run errands around the city in heels and still be comfortable. So how do they do it? Here's a few tips that I found helpful to me:

- Make sure the shoe fits when you buy them

- Practice walking in your heels around the house

- Take smaller steps than you usually do

- Always walk from heel to toe

- Stretch your calves after wearing heels

I know, these tips are something we all probably know by now. But it's amazing how many girls I see walking the wrong way in heels. Practice is key, but I have to admit that heels can be a big pain! So happy walking to all of you and if you have anymore tips please feel free to comment away!

A great reminder of the basics. I see a lot of girls clomping about, and fear for their joints and poor little feet!

hmm, I think Victoria just got out of a limo! And practice heel-toe, don't think it while walking - instead focus on relaxing your upper body when you walk so you don't look stiff!

I admire her just because she can walk in those mile high shoes!

Victoria Beckham's spindly heels are crazy! I can walk in lots of types of heels, but those are kind of insane, no? Great post, by the way. I think I'm going to have to start stretching when I come home in the evening!

And maybe have a chauffeur follow me around like Mrs. Beckham :) The smaller steps tip is a good one and I should remember that!

way to heigh for me! and the heel is waay to to thin. I do love heels though, im in love with loubies, i neeed a a pair. Its the red sole that makes it so amazing!

Great tips! I'm a flats girl myself and don't do well in high heels. I find the comfort factor depends on the type of heel as well. Shoes with chunkier heels and slight platform soles are more comfortable to wear for longer stretches of time.

i can never walk properly with heels I'd look like a girl learning to walk. 2 inches is enough......

I adore heels, but I have to say I know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to the pain. Thanks for the reminders though :) Because no matter how many painful experiences I've had, I always end up wearing heels most of the time anyway haha!

Ooh did you see those ones she wore where there wasn't even a heel?! Gotta admire that kind of dedication to fashion. The small steps is definitely a good tip that I follow!

Oh Miss Fashion.... in our dreams we would be able to amble....
stroll......
sashay....
meander...
or otherwise get ourself from Point A to Point B without creating a scene in some of these heels! We shall continue to practice, but our hopes are not, well, high.

Grins & Giggles, we love the post,

I love heels, but they're tough on the balls of my feet. I really like platforms, because they reduce the impact. Wedges are even better, because they are really stable.

These shoes are killer.

victoria beckham is definitely boss when walking on heels. maybe it was all those years of dancing that helped her walk like that

Great tips, however, I always find that walking heel to toe always DESTROYS my shoes! At least once a year I am replacing the heels on at least four of my favorite pairs.

BAH!

Personally, I am hopeless with heels and have managed to steer clear from them for most of my life.
However, I absolutely adore Victoria Beckham, and if anyone knows how to rock 6-inch heels, it's her!

I wore some tiny heels for the first time in years last night, and it was like learning to walk again!

I love heels, but I can't walk with them, really, I can't! I wish I could...

Although I'm only 4'11 I almost never wear heels. They're pretty but uncomfortable and impractical, especially at school. I still love them though.

I am also a heel lover, but at the end of the day - my feet often hurt too, even when doing everything right! I guess that is the burden we women bear for the love of fashion!

I adore wearing heels, and the ones that look killer are the most killer on the feet as well :( Nice advice, and practice is definitely the best way to get used to them !

Great tips. There's nothing worse than buying shoes and never wearing them because they are too painful!

It's really funny to see girls who can't walk in heels wear 4inch heels. It looks like they are four years old playing dress up.

I'm sure that Posh has a limo waiting for her around the corner with a foot spa all ready to go the second she makes it back! I'm convinced that most of these stilt wearing ladies don't in fact have to stand in them all day whilst: working in a shop and standing on cement floors, catching public transport & trudging up and down footpaths getting anywhere. They taxi/limo it from glamorous location to location and someone else is carrying the groceries home for them!

The things that Victoria Beckham wears are always exquisite. From the top of her head to the soles of her feet she is always looking fabulous and the heels she is wearing in the photograph are just spectacular.

I love my heels and walk EVERYWHERE in them, all day and every day. I definitely need to stretch my calves more often. I've given you my "I love your blog" award, and have posted more details on my page!

I love, love, love heels too & kudos for the great tips! Vic's heels look scary! She can stab someone with it!

i just read another blog entry right before yours with that same title (yes, i know it's quite common). anyways, i'm totally new to wearing heels. never had much experience with them, and i used to hate them, but sometimes, you just have to suck it up. also, practice walking in your heels around the house is definitely a good tip because you need to break them in. they'll be a bit more comfortable after you do so.

i loveeeee wearing my heels. I wear them everyday. I think its worth the pain when another female tell you your shoes are hot or when they look at it. Plus its a major turn on for guys seeing a lady in heels.

living in moscow you quickly learn how to wear heels through snow and cobblestones haha. i have those ysl heels and they are incredibly comforable. they require no tricks for walking in they are super steady and stable, i was really drunk the other night and had to go running after someone who had grabbed my bag, i highly reccomend them. im 5'8 and am super tall in them but they def. stretch you out and make you look slim. theyre great shoes. GET THEM! haha

I wrote about heels in my blog (in particular, I wrote about Prada's Spring 2009 crazy shoe problem). I still can't believe this 5-6 inch heel trend. It's awful. I love a 2-3 inch heel, but there's a limit to what's humanly possible and safe.
