Tattoos

The other day I was glancing through magazines and I see a picture of Daria Werbowy and I think to myself, "What in the world is on her foot?" I take a better look and I notice that it's a tattoo. As a model, you'd think their skin should be flawless and clear with nothing on it, so it actually was a pretty big shock to me.

So I'm thinking, "Well Daria's one of those big famous models, she can get away with it and still not have it harm her career." Just to make sure that she's one of the few models with a tattoo, I check it up online and man was I wrong! I was surprised at how many models had tattoos; Freja Beha, Isabeli Fontana, Gisele Bundchen, Carolyn Murphy - there's just so many of them with them.

I find any girl with a permanent tattoo very brave to commit herself to having something on her skin forever. Just like I wouldn't put bumper stickers on my car, I would never want to decorate my skin in ink. Even if I wanted to express my love towards someone, like Nick Cannon did by putting a huge Mariah tattoo on his back, I still wouldn't have enough nerve to do it. Maybe that's because I was raised to think that it's bad, but I don't think it is really. I just like my skin the way it is. I

However, today I was reading an article in a magazine and it was about removing tattoos. There's actually experts that can remove them, but from the article, it seems like a difficult task. And extremely costly... it's not something you can do in one session. I'm glad that I haven't gotten a tattoo, but I think it really shows a lot about someone, and in many ways it's neat. Just not for me I guess.

If I could go back in time and NOT get the two tattoos I have, I would.

I think that very little tatoos on some certain places of the body can be sexy with a design that can't be related with something or someone, because is too permanent for one to risk big tatoos and names and faces....
I have no tatoo, but I would like to have done one on my right back shoulder a very tiny one.
As for those persons who do tatoos in almost theis bodies I don't like it. It can be very artistic, but I don't like it.

I'd never feel the temptation to tattoo myself either, but I do admire some of the tattoos I see on shows like Miami Ink and LA Ink. They're movable art.

I have two very small tattoos, and love them both. ;)

I will want one to cover my huge ugly green birthmark! & one on my feet! Like the picture!

I think initially tattoos were seen as something rebellious and unique, but now I see so many with them that it's become ordinary. I also think that people commit too easily to them without really considering the consequences. If it's to commemorate something important (not a relationship) then I'm all for it b/c it has meaning, but otherwise it seems a lot of people get bored with them.

Personally, I would love to have a tattoo.
I mean, I'm too young to get one yet,
though I have the most amazing ideas about what I wish to get, though I won't tell,
As you will all probably think I'm crazy.
Haha

But I mean, though I think some people and their tattoos are just extremely ridiculous,
I think that generally, tattoos are actually pretty amazing, I mean, just the fact that it is possible to imprint something on your body, that in some cases, mean a lot to you.
I don't know....

But anyways,
..

I've been reading through like your whole blog,
and I completely love it!

I just made a new blog now, and I hope you would like to link?
Its still new, though I'll basically only be posting my designs.

I think tattoos are really hot, actually, even though I've been raised to think they were bad too. I don't think I'll ever be able to get one, though, because I'm much too afraid of the pain.

I agree with you, as i would also never decorate my skin with something permanent. I remember when i turned 18 i thought of getting a tattoo, but just a thought of having something on my skin for the rest of my life, made me feel sick...however, i do enjoy seeing some beautiful tattoos on people.

I totally feel the same way. No one can really spin tattoos to be appealing to me. I think you put it perfectly when you said you "like your skin the way it is." Though it's fun to put on lots of makeup and clothing and do hair up with lots of product, nothing feels better than shedding it all at the end of the day and feeling perfectly clean and pure. I'd hate to have a tattoo stand in the way of that feeling.

I want to get a tattoo, a quote from one of my favorite poems and on my wrist. But after seeing the photo of the upper forearm tattoo I think it would look so much better!

I love tattoos, I've got one on my left wrist, but I want to go back and get it changed a little bit. I also want to get two latin phrases, but I'm not entirely sure where. I think a lot before I get anything like that done though, never on a whim!

I think it's wise to stay away from tattoos when they start to look trendy, such as the "redemption" and "float" ones, because as we all know, trends go out and can look tacky. And even with tattoo removal it can leave scars... I sort of like the star behind the ear though, it's small and you could hide it if you wanted to.
Also, there's no end to makeup techniques they can use to cover up models tattoos!

Strong feelings, all' round. I've got lots to say about this myself.

I almost got so many different tattoos when I was younger, but never could decide what. So i just have my husband's initials, very small. and honestly, as my body changes as i get older, I'm glad there's nothing there to enhance those changes!

I think that some tattoos are sexy but others are just dreadful. I recently got a script tattoo my foot and love it. I also have a small one on my shoulder which I got years ago. They're a part of me and I don't regret them. I saw a man the other week with tattoos covering his face. And while I could never ever do that, they actually suited him. He was actually pretty hot. I kind of want to take him to my office christmas party just for shock value ;)

You would actually be very surprised at the large amount of models that have tattoos, they just get them in very strategic places.

I have 2 tattoos that I absolutely love love love, but I can totally see where you are coming from. To me mine are reminders of things that I love about myself, and people in general, and they have very specific stories behind them...but it's right, they are going to be on my body forever. I can only hope that I will feel about them the same in 50 years as I do now! My whole approach is that we only live once, why not live a little recklessly?

hope you are well!

I have many tattoos, I think its 13 or 14, and while there are a couple of dodgy ones from my youth I love them all and don't regret any.
Much like birthmarks or scars, they just become part of you and I don't have time for people who judge me or anyone else for the decisions I have made to decorate my body, it's really no business of anyone's but my own!
What always amuses me is when I hear people say, "but what about when you get old and you're all wrinkly and everything?"
Personally I am looking forward to being an old, wrinkly, crazy lady walking around in my eccentric outfits and brazenly showing off my tatts, how interesting to see someone who might have a story or two to tell and some history to imagine.
I think people need to lighten up a little and enjoy themselves for this short time we are here, for some that means permanently decorating their skins and others its spending $500 on designer sunglasses. Whatever!

getting a tattoo removed is just as painful as well!!

FASHIONKEY said...

i really wonder why ppl would want to remove their tattoos. thats so stupid i mean you should be thinking about it lasting forever when you decide to get one.
i have a tattoo too and theres no way i would ever regret it.

I think tattoos are very per-case.
I wouldn't get one.

i love all my tattoos but as i get older and have a more practical way of thinking, there are a few i would eliminate, mostly because of the placement and not the actual tattoo as they all mean tons to me. not necesarily the literral sense of the tattoo but the memories of when i got them.

ps. i like your blog, adding you to my blog roll!

I guess it's models way to show how's body is the picture of, in fashion copying is more than popular, you can't fake tattoos.

Angelina jolie removed hers as well and it was a long procedure. There are photos of her with her tattoo slowly fading! I was going to get one but everyone kept talking me out of it!

i have to say I don't like tatoos so much...

love your blog!

Diane said...

i do agree with you there. i would never ever get a tattoo for 3 reasons.
1) i HATE needles. i cry when one comes near me.
2) i would never want anything permanent on my skin. i change my mind about things too much.
3) what would the tat look like when you get older or gain weight! eeekkk!!!
NO THANKS!

I guess tatoos are for the brave and free kind of people I will never be. I love the way they look, my boyfriend has 3 of them, but I don't think I could get one!

I really like your header, its really cute.
I don't know if I like tattoos, I'm sort of on the fence about them. If I were to get one it would have to think about it for a long time and it would probably hold some meaning and not be very big. I don't like sleeves or tattoos on your lower back. If I were to get a tattoo it would be small and probably on my foot/ankle. I think that the tattos that the Canadian olymic athletes get a pretty cool though.

I like seeing tattoos on models. Sure, the designers probably aint thrilled, but it looks risky, and bold. Who likes conformity, right? ;)

Carmen Porcel said...

I like some tattoos, I think they are cool and I think they're lovely when they've got a meaning, but I don't like people who's got all his body full of tattoos.
I love Christina Ricci's tattoo, have you seen it?
I would like to make me a butterfly in the left part of the hip!

I've put your blog in my favs!

I guess something really small is ok but I don't understand people that get large ones. Imagine when your older and wrinkly and you have to pull back your skin just to show it properly ... *shudders*

Caro said...

i think some people just wear a tatoo with such glamour that they are meant to have one :) other people just look tacky. there's a fine line which mustn't be crossed! love the small implicit tatoos.

When I was 18 I dreamed about tattoo. My cousine made one and I felt in love. Now I change my relation. I don't want any tattoo. I think people do it in special moment of their life. But, for example, two lovers can break theirs relations and what they would do with tattoo with his/her name?

i love your "magazine." please keep up the great work. i guess each model has her own style going on. probably the more rock n roll luella bartley look models may have more tattoos that the ones that dress in chanel meets bill blass head to toe. tattoos or not, they all look gorgeous. if you take a look at erin watson, she has more tattoos than any other model probably. however, they suit her style and she looks gorgeous!

I'm not interested in getting any tattoos at this time. There's nothing so important that I feel the need to permanently brand it on my skin.

I guess it's really up to you. A tattoo is for me a very personal thing. I have one at the back so to be honest I sometimes forget I ever had it so maybe that's the best thing to do. Keep it in a hidden place so you won't always see it! lol. And yes, the removal is costly, and from what I heard an equally painful process...

The good thing that there are always alternatives, like we do now in arab countries, its made of Hennah , which is natural, it lasts for weeks, barely a month..and its cute too and you can then enjoy the tatto thing and not worry about the removal.
i might be talking about it in myblog soon
tune to it.

tattoos are a form of art and self expression. they are beautiful and i believe that if someone has enough passion about something to want to permanently ink it on their own body, then that's their choice. i have two tattoos on the inside of my wrists and they're very personal and special to me for many reasons.

you are not "ruining" your body by decorating it with art. probably onwe of the most ignorant comments i've ever heard.

i love tattoos, if they mean sometingh, you know personal. i have a cross in my shoulder and i have thinked to take few letters and a star..hmm
