My Must Have Summer Accessory

Summer is definitely here and there's one thing I just can't live without: water. Yes, H20. I don't need the air conditioner nor the ice cream, but I'd die without my water. During the springtime I was able to bear days without clutching bottled water everywhere I go and that really puzzles me now.

I'm not the only one that you'll spot carrying water. Water could possibly be one of the celebrities beauty secrets that many people oversee. Didn't Jessica Alba once admit that she didn't work out, but drinks lots of water to keep her healthy? I've seen pictures of many celebs, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, and the list could go on and on, with bottled water in their hands. Water's just too fashionable to not sport and I'm glad I'm keeping up with the trend.

Water might be a new fashion accessory, but to many people it's actually a luxury. Over 1 billion people in the world don't have access to clean water to drink. Imagine being asked to drink dirty water like the one pictured at the bottom. I, like millions of people in the world, have never seen dirty water like this or been in the position to have to drink it. Can you believe that 1.8 million children die every year from diseases caused by unclean water and poor sanitation? That's 5000 deaths a day!

So the next time you don't feel like drinking water, just remind yourself that you're part of the lucky group that actually has drinkable water. Besides, drinking water is healthy and you should really abide by the rules and get that 8 cups of water!

And I guess you might be thinking, you don't have to drink 8 cups of water like the old myth said, but I like to go with it and as long as the heat lasts, I'll be drinking more than that!

IT's so crazy to think about how lucky we are every time we turn on water faucets. I carry a water bottle with me constantly during the summer!

i agree with downing water. i read somewhere it's best to drink a glass of warm water and lime early morning for a de tox. and then a few more glasses to clean out the system early morning. then just more water thru out the day. i plan to start tomorrow.

i totally agree. Water is a basic but many people forget that. Water is great for so many things.
This was a great post. It's great that people "sensiblise" (?) other people about nutrition and...of course water !

water is a basic need, but a lot of people forget/neglect that. there are countries (like my country Nigeria) that having water for daily needs is difficult Great topic.

I couldn't agree more. I don't drink anything but water pretty much every day...it's a bit odd really, other drinks don't hold appeal for me anymore...unless it's a night out and it's alcoholic! Oh dear...

And yes, water is wonderful. Nothing makes my skin look better than a few days of drinking nothing but water :)

Kudos to you, kitten, for pointing this out. Having studied ecology, I am mindful of my water use every day, and grateful for it every time I turn on a tap!

Great post! Water is a must! There was also an article out blasting Dasani water. They use tap water and there is a group (forgot the name) trying to make them put that on there labels. it is best to drink SPRING water, because other water in bottles is just filtered or tap water!

To start with I want to say that I love your blog and I love your intent behind this post- to make us aware of our privilege.

BUT I just want to point out that there's been a huge anti-bottled water movement because the huge amounts of plastic used to produce it, not to mention all the resources used to ship it is extremely wasteful and harmful to both the environment and the billions of people you mentioned who don't have access to clean water. Wasting resources doesn't hurt us so much as people in Africa and Asia who have to deal with worse effects of global warming, like disastrous floods.

It's also been shown that bottled water is no cleaner than tap. SO drink water! But drink tap and drink from a thermos and that'll really help everyone.

Thanks for this post! I believe that access to water is a fundamental right, and even though we are fortunate enough to enjoy it here, I can't help but keep a wary eye on any attempts to privatize our water sources.

I added you to my blog by the way :)

would love to trade links. =)

I blogged about this a long time ago in an old blog. I only drink water (no sodas or juice)so it was my new years resolution to stop drinking bottled water and use a reusable bottle for on the go or mug at work. The chemicals that go into making these bottles are very harmful for th environment and even harder to break down. Plus, how many empty water bottles do you see just littered on the street?

Anyways, wonderful blog. Everyone should drink more water!

i saw somewhere, i think vh1, where mariah carey has someone whose main job is to carry her water bottle for her. how insane is that?

I love water, I am the kind of the girl who drinks 1 liter of water in the first hour of being awake and so much more all day. So yeah, water is the best thing in a girls bag this summer :)
