Celebrity Gossip Gets Boring

At first when I started blogging, I considered doing a celebrity gossip site that had posts generally about all the dirt that everyone wants to know about. It sounded very appealing to me and I figured that I'd probably get tons of hits a day.

For a while I loved reading gossip and I visited lipstick.com daily to find interesting stories about celebrities. I have to admit, it was fun to read about celebrity scandals and mistakes, just like it was fun to hear that a popular kid at school got in detention or something.

But one day, while I was surfing the internet, all of the sudden I got sick and tired of hearing bad news about all the celebs. Everyone on the internet's trashing some of my favorite stars and trying to make me believe that they did "bad" or "scandolous" things that really didn't happen. I take real caution now when I hear that Jessica Simpson or Mariah Carey are real divas that won't do anything unless it's their way. Hey, maybe that's true, maybe some of them out there are really uncontrolable, but I don't think it's right to make them look bad, especially when it comes to their personal issues.

And who knows, everything might be a big fat lie and I feel sorry for celebrities that have to live with all the rumors every single day. Gossip is part of the package when you do become a big celebrity, but I think some places have gone way too far to make stars look bad.

Once I started reading gossip daily, I found a constant pattern and the news was always about affairs, nip slips, couples fighting, pregnancy, etc. It actually started getting boring and I thought to myself "Why am I spending so much time reading about other people's lives?"

I'm glad I decided not to do a blog about gossip, because I feel that it's a waste of time, too negative, and something that I wouldn't be proud of. I'm not sure about you, but I wouldn't be happy with someone bashing about me nor would I want to make someone's life harder by critizing their way of life.

I don't really get the obsession and judging that happens abouttheir private lives. They might be beautiful, well-paid people, but they're people too- and the amount of rubbish and misogyny (somehow, all this negative attention seems to be mostly directed at female celebs) on gossip sites was unbelievable. Though admittedly, some of them court the attention for their own ends- eg. Paris Hilton etc.
I'm glad you chose not to go down that route, because you really have a very good blog here :)

You have a great blog!

I am totally with you. I used to be entertained by the gossip too, but now I feel there is so much negativity and lies. I feel worse about the world when I read all the mean stuff people say.

I used to be ADDICTED to gossip sites, (ha, sounds like a drug or something :P), but like you I realized that it's ridiculous spending so much time absorbed in another person's life, whom you will most likely never meet, and then forget to live your own.

I totally agree. I have never liked gossip. I am studying journalism, and here in Spain there are a lot of gossip tv programmes which are awful. Journalism is being criticized a lot for this, and most of the people who work in that places are not journalist. They don't have ethics nor respect. I can't stand it!

I agree. Gossip is out, so much negativity going on. And we know that maybe a fraction of what they write is true. I rather read about what they are wearing, hairstyles and beauty than gossip. And I am happy that you decided not to write that, because I love your blog- As it is.

i completely agree - gladyou didnt make a gossip site, tbh personally i'm only interested in what they wear not what they do but you have a great blog here anyway! - definitionpoliticalspeakspace.blogspot.com x

Well said-I completely agree with you! I only buy magazines that I feel are biased towards fashion and style and tend to steer clear of the likes of Hello and OK and other celebby types-I'm too laid back to start slagging off someone I don't even know!!

GOOD for you! who cares about celebs anyway? it's kind of voyeuristic to watch them living their lives - but once you stop doing it, you won't miss it!

Everyone always asks me why I don't have a gossip blog [I know everything before it's even published or widely known] but even I can't keep up and it's so repetitive. Same shit, different name. I think that the worst are celeb weeklies vs. blogs because they are so behind. I get STAR magazine weekly [it was a gift sub] and it's like "I read this last week or two weeks ago and already saw all of those pics because of the internet, next."

I did find it amusing to read celeb gossip from time to time, but it gets really boring once you are familiar with the tricks they use to get your attention. I only occasionally read Popsugar now, and even it can be silly:)

P.S. I would totally love to trade links!!

I'm super sympathetic to all celebs (even the annoying ones: L Lohan); it's wrong how we idolize them and then enjoy ripping them to shreds. And people are entitled to a certain amount of privacy--why don't we give them some???

Well said, I totally agree! I'm glad you started this blog instead of a celeb gossip one!

I am still waiting for someone to explain to me how gossip columnists and celebrity news people are REAL journalists! bravo!

agree. waste of time and all. better focus on own and real qualities.

Agree with you all the way, i rather have positive energy around me instead of the negatives

i think you've certainly made the right decision. as an ex-lover of celebrity gossip, it's gotten to the point where it's simply draining and doesn't promote anything good.

i wonder if celebs don't sometimes (of often) act out or dress a certain way to have a laugh at our expense, because we get SO wrapped up their lives. i subscribe to a couple gossip feeds, one is people dot com, which i think has *slightly* more journalistic integrity and then other is a straight up gossip column. Often I scan the headlines and that's all - especially as i've gotten older, i find myself becoming more and more annoyed with how much time and energy is poured into the minute-by-minute celeb reporting. But then, I haven't deleted my gossip feeds yet... great post!

I secretly love celebrity gossip. I frequent perezhilton.com and thesuperficial.com. I also watch the TMZ television show, and the occasional episode of Access Hollywood.

I toyed with the same idea (but more shoes and celebrities) but realized it was a waste of energy because the real stars a my shoes! BRAVO!

amen! I grew up in a house where we watched Entertainment Tonight during dinner, not regular news, so it's hard to ween myself of my interest in celebs. I feel guilty when I see paparazzi photos that are obviously invasive.

I only read celeb sites like Just Jared and Pop Sugar to see the photos. I'm not really interested in who slept with whom or who's in rehab now...
