What the designers are wearing

Giannini Frida looking
stylish in one of her designs.
One thing I find interesting about designers are their outfits and personal style. Everyone is so different, but very fashionable. I'm in love with the way Tom Ford dresses; he's always so sharp looking which is so damn sexy (oh if only my brother would dress like him... and get rid of those pajamas he wears to school). Then there's Vivienne Westwood with her outrageous outfits. I'm always very intrigued by her color choice and hair. Viktor and Rolf always dress like stylish gentlemen, just like the brothers from DSquared. I've never seen Donatella Versace look bad and Giannini Frida rocks all of her looks she designs.

But I think the designer that tops my best dressed designer list would be: Michael Kors. No, really! For a while I never noticed how he always wore the blazer, black shirt, and jeans combo.

Michael Kors simple outfit never
goes out of style.
But I'll say one thing, Michael Kors can make that outfit look good all the time and I'm never bored with it. When Laura from Project Runway Season 4 questioned him about it, his reply was that he didn't want to worry about what he was going to wear anymore. That just shows that he's not self-centered and he really cares about dressing other people and making them beautiful. Now that's what you call a great designer.

And the worst dressed designer? I really don't think designer's can dress badly. Designers obviously know what looks best on people. Therefore it's natural to see them dress impeccably as well.

I do feel like they look a little boring sometimes. However it makes sense. They've got to focus all their attention on their clothing and don't have time to worry about their outfits.

The beauty is inside their designing brains. But they still look presentable and chic!

Worst dressed would be Marc Jacobs for me, lately he's just so over the top--in a bad way! Best dressed is John Galliano, over the top in a good way.

well....i finally found smth to disagree on with you :) that designer always know hw to dress ! an they cant dress badly..will i dont see it a rule, coz i hv seen a lot not really dressed well...even if they do great lines and amazing clothes...even for local designers, who got to be well recognized and known here of their clothes,,they still look way bad when they show on TV or smth ! maybe it has smth to do with their backgnd ! i dont really know..but not always do they look good.

It's true, I can't think of too many badly dress designers. I love Vivienne's personal style. I guess it's true what they say, some designers are their own muse and sort or design for others and themselves at the same time.

Hello, sweetie.
I agree, Michael Kors always looks effortlessly dapper. I tend to like the way Vera Wang dresses, as well. She has an understated chic about her. Ms. D. (as in Versace), is way too much for me, though. A little less make-up and boobility, I think, would be better. She make's me think of my favorite line in Prince's song Kiss: "act your age, mama, NOT your shoe size..."

I totally understand about the tags, and that's perfectly fine. Your blog is always so interesting just as it is.

Thanks for coming by to visit.

Love ya!

i suppose they should dress simply, as their collections should do most of the talking...

I also find them to dress boring at times. But I do think thats a thing of the trade, you focus on the things you create, I guess. Love Frida Gianni and Diane von furstenberg always dress stylish.

I agree that designers usually dress well. Betsey Johnson always looks a little crazy after her shows, but I guess that's her aesthetic (and I love a gal who's not afraid to do a cartwheel in a skirt!). But I think, for all her creative genius, Vera Wang dresses a little blah. She admittedly sticks to a dark color palette and wears mostly black stretch pants and sweaters - with all those lovely gowns, why?? Cool post, made me think.

Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni is the best-dressed to me. She looks better in Marni than the models.

Micheal Kors is adorable. Love his casual stylishness!

I also wondered why Michael Kors always wore the same thing all the time. And I also agree that there isn't really a badly dressed designer. hehe ;-)

i think many designers would rather not think about what they have to wear THEMSELVES because it would be critiqued, so maybe thats why alot of them wear just simple outfits that are all the same? like michael kors. i think its sort of amazing.

Though I'm not a fan of michael kors (just sort of seems like a calvin klein rip off to me), I am a fan of his "uniform" (and just did a post about that whole concept basically). It simply...works. It's the ideal designer wardrobe.
And I might not be remembering correctly, but I'm pretty sure he used to dress REALLY crazy and multi-colored and just way out there. Pretty funny transformation.
Good post! (and I'm adding you to my blog links, teehee)
